Genesis: Four Billion Years in the Making(1978)
The Great Valley in Africa - a crack of more than 6,500 kilometers in the earth's crust - is the result of the continental fracture that began about 20 million years ago. Volcanic eruptions, like the spectacular eruption of Hawaii's Kilauea volcano in Genesis, are the result of powerful tectonic processes that continually reshape the earth's surface. “From the first moment a supernova explodes in a burst of light and sound, Genesis audiences won't just have a front row seat to watch the creation of the world. The public will be immersed in the creation itself and will be fully aware that the creation is still going on” – Richmond, News-Leader. "Genesis attests that if the public is offered what it wants, it will break down its doors" -Minneapolis Star.

In this personal documentary, Indigenous comedian Chad Charlie goes to participate in the Standing Rock occupation and has a transformative experience. The film takes us on Charlie’s powerful passage of self-discovery, from the irreverent jokester to the culturally aware poet whose powerful spoken word piece encapsulates his realizations at the close of the film. In this blend of cinema, vlog, and social media with tons of humour, Charlie uses a real mix of formats (phone streaming, news footage, fly-on-the-wall documentary style) very effectively, and doesn’t try to work in a huge narrative or have a tidy conclusion. Like many who were there and endured violence by police against their peaceful marches, Charlie is still working through trauma and mental health issues he experienced from it. In his case, this journey has left him with a greater awareness of the ongoing injustices that Indigenous people must still contend with.
10.0Gary Hemming, le beatnik des cimes(fr)
The American mountaineer Gary Hemming marked the era of the 1960s. While the official emergency services of the EHM try to reach them from above, a pirate rope made up of Gary Hemming, René Desmaison, Lothar Mauch, Gil Bodin, Mike Brurke, François Guillot, the filmmaker Gérard Bauer organizes to join them from below and succeeded after a fierce struggle the rescue. The press seizes the event and elevates Gary Hemming to the rank of national hero. All the newspapers feature this big guy with a cool attitude, mismatched clothes, jovial smile and long blond hair on the front page. From then on, he was nicknamed: "the beatnik of the peaks".

Nisei Soldier: Standard Bearer for an Exiled People(en)
Nisei Soldier focuses on the heroism of American men of Japanese ancestry who fought bravely during World War II, despite the intense moral dilemmas they faced. Leaving their families imprisoned in "relocation centers", many young Nisei (second generation American-born Japanese) proved their loyalty in WWII by enlisting in the all-Japanese American 442nd Infantry Regiment which fought in Europe. Because of the Regiment's incredible bravery in battle, liberation of French towns, and high casualty rate, it became the most decorated unit in U.S. military history. The film asks: What sustained these young men forced to battle on two fronts at once -- against fascism abroad and intense prejudice at home? More than a war story, Nisei Soldier is a tale about personal honor, family loyalty and love of country -- and what it means to be an American.
