When a state phantomizes a population, another reality. When history distorts the truth. When my (her)story meets another (her)story. When women disappear without a trace. When, white and privileged, I attend a rehearsal of stories. When violence done to women’s bodies equals the violence done by words. The bodies of those we don’t want to see or hear. From my studio window, I look out and my life intersects with theirs. In Winnipeg there are those who Win, generally the whites. There are the nips, the name given to Asian immigrants (the Latinos included in the insult) And everyone walks on EGG shells.

In Quebec, the lakes we love and take for granted are quickly perishing, as highlighted by the proliferation of aquatic plants and algae in our water bodies. With images of lakes and dozens of interviews, the documentary points the finger at those responsible for this decline.

Nannies(pt)

Nannies combines autobiographical elements with a reflection on the presence of nannies in Brazil. With a subjective narration, the film incorporates photographs, domestic footage and newspaper adds from the 20th century, as well as contemporary images of nannies and children, building a personal narrative about the presence of nannies in the daily lives of many Brazilian families. A situation where the affection is genuine, but does not dissolve violence and racism.

Who You Callin' a Nigger?(en)

To mark his 21st anniversary in broadcasting, the commentator Darcus Howe picks up on his chosen topic for another piece of work; racism. However, when Howe came to England "racism" was something that all ethnic groups faced from white people and it bonded the community together. Now Howe travels to the Midlands and several other areas of England to find that racism is rife within the ethnic community. He interviews those within the West Indian, Indian, Pakistani and Somalis communities to find that they are split with hatred and racism views of one another bringing the communities to the boil.

Germany in Autumn(de)

Germany in Autumn does not have a plot per se; it mixes documentary footage, along with standard movie scenes, to give the audience the mood of Germany during the late 1970s. The movie covers the two month time period during 1977 when a businessman was kidnapped, and later murdered, by the left-wing terrorists known as the RAF-Rote Armee Fraktion (Red Army Fraction). The businessman had been kidnapped in an effort to secure the release of the orginal leaders of the RAF, also known as the Baader-Meinhof gang. When the kidnapping effort and a plane hijacking effort failed, the three most prominent leaders of the RAF, Andreas Baader, Gudrun Ensslin, and Jan-Carl Raspe, all committed suicide in prison. It has become an article of faith within the left-wing community that these three were actually murdered by the state.
