It’s now 40 years since the end of the Cod Wars between Britain and Iceland. During the 1950s and 60s, Britain consumed 430,000 tons of cod each year, but as the stocks started to diminish the livelihoods of fishing communities in both countries were at stake. Iceland took steps to protect their fishing industry - the mainstay of their economy - resulting in the three so-called Cod Wars. This was a David and Goliath struggle, where the small fleet of Icelandic gunboats were pitted against the British trawlers and the Royal Navy in the North Atlantic. This Icelandic film, made in 2001, tells the story from both sides and reflects on the impact of the Cod Wars in Grimsby and Hull.

14 September 1943: The legendary submarine Y1 “Katsonis” was sunk north of the island of Skiathos by the German submarine chaser UJ 2101. Through the book of XO Elias Tsoukalas who escaped capture and had to swim for nine hours to reach shore, secret documents, and crew members’ diaries, the documentary unfolds the human stories woven around the submarine. Seventy-five years later, with the support of the Hellenic Navy, we search for the submarine sunk at 253 metres depth and film the wreck for the very first time.

Since the Tsunami hit the northern part of Japan's coast in 2011, more than 20 thousand people lost their lives, and many others are still missing. As time went by the families of the victims abandoned all hope and stopped looking for their loved ones. However, this is the story of two men that are still fully committed to their respective searching activities. Even though their backgrounds are extremely different, both share a strong force of will and firmly wish to keep alive the memories of the ones that went missing. Perseverance is what pushed an ex-convict to look for redemption by helping the victims' families to find the remains of their loved ones, and perseverance is what brought a bus driver to start to dive in order to search for his wife.

Narrow streets of the village carry vital parts to watches and nowdays also into human bodies, for example pacemakers. Village is formed as a big factory line and appears as a time-twisting machine. Hyohakusha is a lyrical trip to Japan, passing through Galicia (magic land in the northwest of Spain). Two women filmmakers recover twenty forgotten rolls of Super8 that showed the journey of two Galicians to different places of Japan in 1973, and with this material, and the reflections and emotions of his owner watching the rolls for the first time (the son of the travelers) with her wife, that is Japanish and could not know her father in law that died soon after that trip, these two filmmakers give birth to a new story seeking suggestive relations between the two countries (half of the film is filmed by them in Galicia, also in Super8). This filmmakers during the process of making this film are reading a book of haikus of Basho, that wrote in his lyrical diary "Oku no Oshomichi" about the beauty of some of the places where this Galician couple went to visit in their trip to Japan many centuries later. So some passages of this travelogue are included too.
