Hubble: 15 Years of Discovery(en)

On the momentous occasion of the Hubble Space Telescope's 15-year anniversary, the European Space Agency released this commemorative documentary looking back of the history of discovery that the telescope has facilitated. Retrace the story of its successes and difficulties, illustrated by state-of-the-art computer animation, as well as spellbinding footage photographs taken from Hubble, much of which has been previously unseen until now. The film presents some of the most fascinating facts about our universe that Hubble has uncovered, and explains things like wormholes, black monsters, and event horizons. This project was initiated in the winter of 2020 and lasted about two years. I was compelled to investigate the relationship between my body and animal bodies, especially those who are physically larger than myself, and who are not pets but rather those who live amongst their kind. Therefore my interactions with them were not based on a pre condition of habits such as petting or mutual care seeking. If there was touch or closeness, they were of a non scripted and unexpected nature. In the process of making this film I used a GoPro camera for its small size and because it doesn’t need to be held while shooting, so that the camera could be placed in various positions in relation to the animals bodies. This way I could capture the subjects from up close without causing them distress.

In the midst of the 1918 Great Rice Riots in Osaka, Seitaro meets with Asako, the daughter of a rice shop owner, and falls in love with her. She too is of Buraku descent. At the same period, Hideaki, an old friend of the brothers returns to Komori, and he along with Koji and the townspeople create "Zenkoku Suiheisha", the National Levelers Association, an organization pledged to build a bridge over the river of discrimination, making all people equal in every way.
