The beginning of a master
In the span of five years, pioneering director D.W. Griffith delivered some 450 films for the Biograph Company at a rate of two or three films per week. One and two reels in length, these works showed the filmmaker inventing, borrowing, and perfecting techniques he later used to memorable effect in "The Birth of a Nation," "Intolerance," "Way Down East" and "Orphans of the Storm." Including Lillian and Dorothy Gish, Mary Pickford, Mack Sennett, Lionel Barrymore, Henry Walthall, and Mae Marsh. Among the 22 titles included on this landmark release are such widely recognized masterworks as "The Musketeers of Pig Alley," "The Battle at Elderbush Gulch," "The New York Hat," and "A Corner in Wheat."

In this one, Max has run low on ink, so Ko-Ko finishes drawing himself and then heads over to the camera room, where he creates his own characters, a mechanical dancing Dresden doll with whom he falls in love and a couple of automaton musicians. He gets rid of the musicians, but, alas, the projectionist gets oil onto Ko-Ko's soon-to-be bride, melting her.

Best: His Mother's Son(en)
Best – His Mother’s Son (BBC Two) was a gloomy drama about Ann Best, mother of George, who was strictly teetotal until her mid-40s, when she had her first sip of sherry to celebrate her son’s footballing success. Ten years later, she was dead from alcoholism-related heart disease. The recreation of late-Sixties Belfast was accurate and, thank goodness, intelligently subdued: no comedy Ulster accents and no point-scoring subplot about the Troubles.

The Fifth Step(en)
An inmate manages to win the prison time battle by thinking about his wife, who was also imprisoned. He lives only with the hope that the two will see each other again, but eventually realizes that the only thing he has left is the memory of the two's dancing steps.
The Clown's Pup(en)
Max Fleischer draws a clown, who comes alive on the page. The clown doesn't like the way he is drawn and demonstrates his own artistic abilities.

Children of the Age(ru)
The picture tells the story of Maria, a devoted wife of a bank employee. The couple has a cozy life; they have a baby but he is cared for by their maid so Maria can spend her time doing terrific things like going shopping. During one of these consumer afternoons, Maria meets by chance an old friend, Lidia, who will introduce her to exclusive idle class social circles. Soon Maria's beauty attracts the interest of Lebedev, a rich old libertine. From that point on Maria suffers continual sexual harassment (worthy of inclusion in any silent film encyclopedia article on beleaguered heroines) which she resists for a time. In the end, however, she falls into his bourgeois claws.

Alawi is a theater director, who lives an unstable family life, as his wife does not understand the nature of his profession, and seems very jealous over him, as it does not lead him to the requirements of the home as he likes, which causes Alawi to spend most of his time outside the home, while during his discharge he plays one of the plays invading Dosa, Which finds her innocence something different from his wife, and feelings of love grow between the two, the wife knows about the relationship, so she requests a divorce, and the women crowd with him after separating from his wife.

A young engineer whose wife dies in a car accident, and leaves his young daughter, and because he is an petroleum engineer, he has to be absent from the house, so he brings a maid to the house, and takes her with him to his home in Suez where he works, on one of the nights he drunk, the engineer rapes the maid, and when she carries the fetus he requests Among them is the speed of getting rid of it, and when he presents it to the doctor, the latter informs him that abortion is dangerous for her life, which puts the man in a crisis.

Broncho Billy's Christmas Dinner(en)
It's Christmas, and a young woman is on her way to celebrate the holidays with her parents. A group of drunk cowboys startle her horses making her wagon, with the woman on it, speed off. By chance Broncho Billy saves her life and the grateful girl invites him over for Christmas dinner. Little does he know that the young lady is the Sheriff's daughter…

During his visit to a graveyard, a young man is suddenly projected into a dream-like realm. Empty and removed from time, the familiar landscape forces him to confront certain pains when blood suddenly effuses from his hands.

The Sixth Sense(ru)
About a young engineer's struggle for new, scientifically proven methods of working in drilling mines. His main opponent is a drilling foreman who prefers to be guided by his "sixth sense" in his work. In the end, engineer Geydar wins a double victory: he proves the superiority of new drilling methods over traditional ones and wins the heart of the old foreman's daughter. The film is considered banned.
