The Flour Test(pt)

A London journalist returns to Brazil to face one of the demons of his adolescence: the Flour Test. This ridiculous experiment was conducted during the military dictatorship to determine whether army recruits were homosexuals. It consisted of having the men sit naked on flour to measure the circumference of their anus and the integrity of their morals. Unfortunately, this procedure is not limited to the past. Bolsonaro's ultra-homophobic government has attempted to introduce legislation similar to the infamous test.

At the beginning of the 1913 Mexican Revolution, greedy bandit Juan Miranda and idealist John H. Mallory, an Irish Republican Army explosives expert on the lam from the British, fall in with a band of revolutionaries plotting to strike a national bank. There, he works as a prisoner in the SS Photographic Service, hiding, between 1943 and 1945, around 20,000 negatives that later will be presented as evidence during several trials conducted against Nazi war criminals after World War II.

Hungary was the site of serial murders on ethnic basis. Over the course of one year, the murderers killed and seriously injured Roma children and adults. The state charged 4 men with committing the crime with racial motivation. This historical trial started March, 2011, and ended August, 2013 in Budapest. The 167 days of hearings was only documented continuously by our crew. We had exclusive permission to use multiple cameras in the court-room. The film is a classical chamber-drama, taking place in a small, claustrophobic court room, in the middle of Europe. What will be the outcome of the marathon, 3 year-long trial?
