But all that came to a sudden and horrific end in the summer of 2004 when Sam shared too many shots of vanilla flavored vodka, passed out and died alone inside a cluttered fraternity house. Her death was an unintended tragedy. Binge drinking kills nearly 2,000 college students each year. The epidemic is growing at high schools, colleges and universities across the nation. We hope kids, parents, families and friends will watch Sam’s story, learn her lesson and know when to say no.

Alcohol: No substance in the world seems so familiar to us and is so incredibly diverse in its effect. Alcohol is available everywhere and this particular molecule has the power to affect all 200 billion neurons of our human brain in completely different ways. But hardly anyone calls alcohol a drug despite its psychoactive and cell-destroying effect. Why do we tolerate the death of three million people every year? Have we turned a blind eye to the dangers and risks for thousands of years? What role does the powerful alcohol industry play with an annual turnover of 1.2 trillion euros in this on-going concealment? The author, who himself enjoys having a drink, looks into the question why we drink at all, what alcohol does to us and to what extent the alcohol industry influences society and politics.

Surviving the driver's education class is only the first step, as the teenager must then pass his driving test, and then finally get permission to borrow the family car.

Produced by Jack McGaw and co-produced by The National Research Council, the Ontario Ministry of Transportation of Communications, and Toronto/Ontario Provincial Police, they demonstrate dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs with participating young drivers alongside field experts and researchers to aid in their experiments.

Finish With The Booze(pt)

The short film follows the night of a group of friends playing domino and drinking excessive quantities of alcohol. Using photos taken on the day of the meeting and a song by artist Pepe Moreno, "Finish With The Booze" is an observational and ironic documentary that shows the transformation of the characters and the chaos that ends up taking place with the excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages. An comic and raw reflection on the excesses and affections that mark the parties of young Brazilian men, all this to the sound of electronic forró.

One in a series of traffic safety films made in 1950 by James S. Kemper for the Lumbermans Mutual Casualty Company, with the technical assistance of the LAPD, "Teenicide" addresses the alarming issue of teenage driving-related deaths. The film referrs to "teenocide" because as the police officer narrator states, there has been an 86% increase in the 15-24 age group over the past 25 years.

David Vandenbrink seems like a healthy 21-year-old, bright and articulate young man. There is little to suggest that while in his mother's womb, he suffered permanent brain damage. His condition, fetal alcohol syndrome (F.A.S.), went undiagnosed for the first 18 years of his life, causing confusion, anger, and pain for both David and his non-Indigenous adoptive family. Fetal alcohol syndrome is a term used to describe a set of symptoms seen in some children born to women who drank alcohol during pregnancy. The damage can be subtle or severe, resulting in a wide range of symptoms in the areas of slowed growth, disfigurement, and damage to the brain. Associated behavioural problems include impulsiveness, poor judgment, and an inability to grasp the consequences of actions. This personal story, using video footage shot by David himself, along with the experiences of members of his family, is a hard look into the serious consequences of a little-known, but widespread, health problem.
