She is in disagreement with his husband on how her daughter should be raised and what she should become. She thinks that if she declares his husband insane she would be able to decide for her daughters future. She knowingly creates confusion and tells his husband that he cannot be sure that he is the father of their daughter. Captian starts to believe that the daughter who was everything for him may not be his daughter and becomes insane and his wife gets the custody of her daughter as she wished.
