The Silent Master(en)

Valentin Marquis de Sombreiul, alias Monsieur Simon, is known as the great master because he is the leader of a band of Parisian Apaches who mete out their own private justice to individuals who have violated their code in a secret tribunal known as the court of St. Simon. In an effort to cure Eugene, a young American longing for excitement, Valentin induces the young man to witness these horrors with the result that the youth is drawn into the Apache gang and sentenced to prison for one of their crimes. Later, after the master has disbanded his secret society and married Virginia Arlen, a girl from an aristocratic family, he discovers to his horror that the boy whose life he has ruined is his wife's brother. It is then up to him to try and make amends.

Only John's disabled cousin Philip suspects her. John returns, having only been wounded, and seeing that his mother loves Cicely, he continues the masquerade, slowly falling in love with Cicely. When Philip threatens exposure the cousins fight causing John's war wound to reopen. Thinking that he is dying, John summons a priest, who solemnizes his union with Cicely. John later recovers and the two resume their life together.

Kindly widowed farmer John Hardy takes in the orphaned Ida Allen and due to her care of him adopts her. While there is a plan in place for John’s other daughter Eleanor to marry neighboring farmer Hugh Conway she has fallen in love with a wastrel, Paul Denny. Foolhardy, she elopes with Paul who quickly abandons the now pregnant Eleanor who then entreats Ida’s help. Ida comes to her aid, but Eleanor expires leaving Ida with the baby. Meanwhile Hugh and John have been led to believe Ida has disgraced them but when Denny returns looking for hush money, they learn the truth. Hugh banishes the blackard, finds and declares his love for Ida and the family is reunited.

Henry Lamont, a wealthy miner, is mysteriously murdered. Trooper Joe Hammond, in the neighborhood, hears the shot and comes to the aid of Jeanne Lamont, who is at loss to explain the fatal attack on her father. The girl goes to live with her uncle, who has already been visited by a bogus trooper, who imparts the information that one of the Northwest Police is suspected of being 'the lone wolf,' a desperate criminal. Trooper Hammond, too, seeks 'the wolf.' Developments disclose that the bogus trooper was 'the wolf,' but not until the latter tries to file claim on a gold vein he is detected by the girl.

In Hell's Valley, Texas Ranger Captain Wally kills Jose Valdez, leading Jose's brothers, Carlos and Manuel, to seek revenge at the Flores ranch. Wally is wounded pursuing them but is saved by Rosita Flores, his original sweetheart's daughter, who nurses him but secretly seeks his torture for her father, and also for herself. Carlos and Manuel fall for Rosita, but she, in turn, falls for Wally, leading to Carlos accidentally killing Manuel and Don Flores killing Carlos, with Wally and Rosita's relationship solidified.

Skin Deep(en)

Skin Deep is a 1929 American talking drama film directed by Ray Enright and starring Monte Blue. It was produced and distributed by the Warner Brothers. It was also released in the U.S. in a silent version for theaters not equipped yet with sound. The film is a remake of a 1922 Associated First National silent film of the same name directed by Lambert Hillyer and starring Milton Sills. All copies of this film are now lost. However, the Vitaphone soundtrack, of music and effects, survive.
