Julie Andrews was nominated for an Emmy for portraying the titular scullery maid who finds true love with a prince in this legendary adaptation of one of the most famous fairy tales of all time. It was originally broadcast live on CBS on March 31, 1957, and was a phenomenal success, viewed by more than 107 million people. Fourteen-year-old Pavel, alias Pako, falls into an underground tunnel during an expedition near Lukov Castle, injures his spine, and is confined to a wheelchair. After several months of rehabilitation, he and his mother Věra find it difficult to accept that he will never walk again. Local castle warden Jaromír also has his own problems to deal with in Lukov, as he struggles with grief over the death of his beloved wife. Lukov mayor Karel Zlejšek and his wife Naďa refuse to admit that their relationship is not developing as they had imagined and that this is affecting their son Petr's behavior. Adam and Eva's marriage is also going through a crisis, but so far they have managed to hide it from their children Aničkou and Tadeáš, or Nyny and Dydyn. Tokár arrives in the village with his daughters Dragica and Štěpánka – Šmudla – and tries to fit into everyday life in Lukov.

When the hare stumbles over the sleeping hedgehog one Sunday morning, an argument ensues. The insulting word "crooked leg" is uttered. In his distress, the hedgehog develops the idea of a joint race. The hedgehog and his wife prove to the imaginary hare that the wiser laughs last.

Blessed Misfortune!(de)

A creature bearing the ominous name "Mishap" is hot in pursuit of an unfortunate lumberjack and eventually decides to live with him. It soon gets bored, however, and asks the lumberjack to hand it over to the rich merchant Habermoos. Habermoos manages to sell Mishap to the king, although he is being attacked by robbers. The king is bankrupt and threatened with war by other countries. Young Michael has to go to war for the king. The creature tries to secretly join him. When Michael gets hold of the situation, he manages to get rid of Mishap once and for all. After all, he has more important things to do. At the last moment, he prevents his girlfriend Kathrin from getting married to the pompous merchant Habermoos.

Klaus lives with his two brothers Kunz and Franz in a little village. Together, they ply their trade as cobblers in a small workshop. But the workload rests mainly on the shoulders of ill-treated Klaus. When Kunz and Franz go off into the forest to chop wood for fuel they run into an old woman who asks them for some wine and bread. Rudely and gruffly, they refuse her request and return home without any wood. Klaus then has to set out and he meets the old woman as well. He gladly offers her his frugal meal which is suddenly turned into pancakes and good wine. In addition, he receives a golden goose for his kindness. The bird possesses a an unusual characteristic: all those who are prying, nosy, envious and rapacious get stuck to it and become glued to one another.
