As Pridamant witnesses the conflicting romances involving his estranged son, Corneille’s modernist meta-narrative is transposed to contemporary Paris, underscoring the ambiguous nature of love, wealth and desire in an age of consumerism. Three screens display how the day’s light passes by: from the early morning light until late at night. Along with the woman the artist walks through the forest, in the same rhythm, the same pace. Off-screen she looks through the camera, fragmenting time. The age-old androgynous trees are a vertical constant along which the woman moves, as if in an interval between visibility and invisibility, between sound and silence, while the light keeps on evolving metabletically.

A crowd gathers at the skating rink to watch the big championship hockey game of the Pelicans versus the Aardvarks. Although referee "Clean Game" Kinney does his best to supervise, the hockey game really gets out of hand eventually. Two star players, Bertino and Ferguson, are so anxious, they never get let out of the penalty box, referee Kinney is never able to drop the puck without being physically hurt somehow, and the spectators themselves are so worked into the game, they take out their aggression on the ice while the players relax in the bleachers.

Wealthy and ill Petr Kornel (Karel Hasler) is not pleased with the carousing lifestyle of his nephew. He stops supporting him financially and demands that he change his name. Out of gratitude Kornel bequeaths a substantial sum of money to his nurse Alice (Adina Mandlová) with the condition that she marries. Petr Suk (Hugo Haas), as the nephew is now named, visits the doctor. In the waiting room his X-ray is mistakenly switched with one of another patient's. On the basis of this he presently learns that he is seriously ill and has only one day of life left to him.

Xenia: Priestess of Night(en)

A presently lost underground feature movie, filmed entirely in San Francisco in 1976. Originally shot on beautiful Double X Negative black and white motion picture film (used extensively in studio films of the 1940s), this sequence derives from a digital transfer of a vintage (1990) 1" analog telecine, and shows some scan line artifacting and strobing with fast movement, general image degradation, and cropping at the sides (the latter due to incompetent digital transfer). The present whereabouts of the original film print and negatives is uncertain, though it is still hoped that the entire film can be digitally restored from the original elements. The visual aesthetic was an attempt to re-create the look of Poverty Row horror features of the 1940s, like those produced by Monogram and PRC studios. There was no budget, and everyone worked for free.
