New regulations and a shift in the balance of power in the tire war ensured that predicting the winner of each race was never easy. Kimi Raikkonen calmly took the title to the wire in only his second season with a top team! Juan Pablo Montoya upped his game and came so close. Nothing could faze Fernando Alonso. He became the youngest F1 race winner in history! Go on board with him as he laps Michael Schumacher! Experience the fastest race in F1 history. 4.21970 was the year of transition in Grand Prix racing; the season that pitched the old guard against a feisty new breed of racers intent on pushing Formula One forward into the new decade. Nothing symbolised this battle more than the cars used by top contenders: Jacky Ickx’s Ferrari 312B relied on brute force to compensate for its outdated styling, whereas Jochen Rindt’s Lotus 72 showed that radical aerodynamics represented a brave and (potentially) faster way forward. And with the technological battles came a fascinating season’s racing. Jackie Stewart was the defending champion but took nothing for granted. When different drivers won the first four races, Stewart, and the world, knew that the Championship was wide open. Thrilling battles ensued until triumph and tragedy came together in one fatal collision: on the 5th of September 1970 Championship leader Jochen Rindt died during practice at Monza. He was to become the sport’s first posthumous champion.
5.0Formula One 1976 Review - Hunt for the Title is the DVD review of the 1976 Formula 1 season. This was the year when Britain's James Hunt, in the McLaren, amazingly clinched the Formula One Drivers Championship during the final Grand Prix of the season in Japan. The reigning Champion, Niki Lauda in the Ferrari, started the 1976 season as the favourite for the Championship. His nearest rival, Emerson Fittipaldi, made the patriotic switch from McLaren to the Brazilian funded Copersucar team. This left a hole at McLaren... it was filled by the ambitious British hopeful with the playboy image, James Hunt, to set the scene for a dramatic season of racing.

4.5The 1994 season was the year in which Michael Schumacher won his first title, but it is remembered more for the fatal crashes of Roland Ratzenberger and three-time world champion Ayrton Senna at the same race event. This video captures the atmosphere well, with thoughtful photo tributes to both drivers and many interviews with drivers and team personnel. There are also excerpts from the key press conferences held by Max Mosely held after the accidents. The build up to the season is very good indeed, and there is a range of music used that bring events such as Jean Alesi's first pole position to life. The practice and qualifying sessions are well covered.
0.01999 saw Formula One celebrate 50 years as the worlds top motor racing series. The season was a classic and worthy of the title, the most open in years, producing six winners and four title contenders. The Championship again went down to the wire to the final race in Japan where Hakkinen (Mclaren) and Irvine (Ferrari) fought a psychological and tactical battle dividing the Drivers' and Constructors' Championship between them. A most unpredictable season produced truly dramatic racing. Eddie Irvines' maiden win in Melbourne, Ferraris' first one/two in Monaco, unforgettable racing in Canada and France, Stewarts' first win at the Nurburgring, Michael Schumachers' stunning return in Malaysia and of course, the thrilling showdown in Japan were just some of the highlights.

John Akii Bua had become the first African to win gold in an event under 800 metres. He was also the first man to break the 48 seconds barrier in the 400 metre hurdles, an event so gruelling its nickname is 'The Mankiller'.
