Sol Roth grew up in Eugene, Oregon as a skinny, shy kid. In high school he got his first taste of theater and was hooked. He began writing his own stories and overcame the shyness that dominated his childhood. After high-school he served in the US Army and built up his body and real life adventure experience. He attended the University of Oregon and after being inspired by the stories of independent filmmakers in the in the early pre-digital filmmaking revolution he wrote, starred, and directed the feature film "Boy Who Never Slept". He had 0 previous filmmaking experience and taught himself each part of the movie making process. The final movie was released on YouTube in 2006 garnering million of views as it became the first feature film to ever be released that way.
After college, Sol Roth put everything he owned in the trunk of his car and drove down to LA. He was inspired again by the collaborative art online. In 2010, he started MoviePals with goal of creating a platform for artists all around the world to worth together. The MoviePals application was launched and it gained thousands of users in the first month. Sol Roth's picture appeared on the front page of the LA Times and he spoke at the Open World Forum in Paris, France. A few short films, and a web-series was created on it and the idea started to gain traction. Sol Roth also created a feature film and some experimental cinema pieces (In Real Life). Eventually MoviePals failed, everything was taken offline and Sol Roth lost everything.
He never stopped writing or dreaming, but spent years recovering and figuring out what to do from there. In 2015 while working as web developer, he wrote / starred in and directed a short horror movie called The Dollface Slasher. This short film went on to play in a number of festivals and premiere at the famous Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. At the same time, he made some progress and almost sold an epic sci-fi movie script and relaunched his career.
Life continued with it's ups and downs and after a number of failed attempts at a big win (large movie), Sol Roth took a step back to try something new. To return to the love of the art and to start again with a different perspective. He founded Sol Roth Media in 2020, and instead of waiting and putting all his energy into the grandiose ideas, he went simpler. Basic, minimalist and pure. He started video blogging daily, expressing his creativity across many different mediums.
His audience began to grow again and new opportunities presented themselves. Physicality wise, he pushed his body to it's limits, crafting the body of a Greek God, the best body of his life. While visiting his mother who was dying of cancer, she left him a camera and made him promise to make a movie and go for his dreams again. True to his word, Sol Roth started planning the creation of a feature film. While on quarantine from Covid-19 in 2020, Sol Roth created "Sol Roth's The Audition" a solo feature film, shot in black and white. It was distributed internationally and received wonderful reviews. In 2021 Sol Roth is video blogging his filmmaking adventures and working on his next movie. His goal is to make works that matter and inspire others while expressing his true self. And being awesome!
