Two brothers, Sten and Jonas, own and live on a farm near Ätran in Falkenberg. Sten has just been released from prison but continues his shady business dealings, which now include a large stock of fine cognac. Jonas tries to put a stop to this but has to agree to play Sten's wife for a day in order to trick the person who is going to buy the smuggled alcohol. It turns out that Jonas has invited two summer guests to rent the chicken coop for a week, the young woman Anna and her father Göte . Jonas falls in love with Anna, and everything becomes even more confusing when the completely idiotic neighbor Ivar Rask understands everything in his own way. The double interview is controlled and manipulated by a computer-generated severed hand which Maria describes as an object once discovered in the trash while working in the violent northern town of Mexicali. This CGI hand was in turn produced by Max, who was born with no arms, and sought refuge in computer-imaging as a means to operate and manipulate a digital reality.

We see what they eat, where they sleep, and how they respond to media scrutiny, on-going trials, the shrinking of their fortunes, and the criticism of society. Central focus is placed on Hiroshi Araki, a young man who finds himself elevated to chief spokesman for Aum after its leaders are arrested. Araki faces extreme hostility from the Japanese public, who find it hard to believe that most followers of the cult had no idea of the attacks and even harder to understand why these followers remain devoted to the religion, if not the violence.
