The constant factors are a middle-aged poet with a gammy leg, a prostitute who may or may not be dead, and the woman’s humble room (which may or may not be tidy), where the poet does his writing. Asking "What did happen at 9:20 that evening?," the film underlines the unreliability of memory and the impossibility of objectivity.

A 35mm independent film by the director who loves to make movies, but is not interested in professional film directors. The director who was shocked to see a picture of a dog abused and abandoned by humans, devoted his passion to this unique work that took seven years to complete.

Bear (10 minutes, 35 seconds) was Steve McQueen's first major film. Although not an overtly political work, for many viewers it raises sensitive issues about race, homoeroticism and violence. The film is silent but a series of stares, glances and winks between the protagonists creates an optical language of flirtation and threat.
