Overview
The film traces the story of a patrol of the Algerian National Liberation Army (ALN), whose mission is to transport a prisoner French soldier to the Tunisian border. Through the march of this group of guerrillas we witness the spirit of sacrifice and combativeness of these men from the people. The patrol will be decimated, but a young peasant will take over and complete the mission.

The family, after a long journey, heads towards the refugee camps on the Tunisian border. Produced by the Cinema Service of the Provisional Government of the Algerian Republic (GPRA) in the midst of the war of independence, these films were intended to re-inform the population and international public opinion on the abuses committed by the French colonial army: torture, arrests and arbitrary executions, napalm bombings, fires in douars, entire villages wiped off the map, etc. which the French media described as a "pacification" campaign. The latter censoring or reorienting any images that could harm the colonial narrative.

Her short film Monangambée addresses the torture by the Portuguese army of a sympathizer of the Angolan resistance. At the end of editing, Sarah Maldoror approached the members of the Art Ensemble of Chicago during a Parisian concert and offered to add sound to her film. The next day they watched the film, were convinced and recorded their first soundtrack for free as evidence of African-American solidarity. Shot in Algiers, Monangambée is a film about torture and, more broadly, about the incomprehension between the colonized and the colonizers. It is based on a novel by the Angolan writer Luandino Vieira, then imprisoned by the Portuguese colonial power.

At the Esalen Institute in California, group therapy sessions are held in the seventies, led by doctor William Schutz, who was also founder of the institute and author of the books Joy and Here Comes Everybody. The idea - then more revolutionary than now - was that people in group therapy could lose their stress and anxieties by confronting themselves and each other, guided by a psychologist, with their inhibitions and tensions. The heterogeneous group of fourteen people exposed their struggles with homosexuality, their marital fears and sexual frustrations. Director Whitmore compiled the documentary from more than sixty hours of film, shot in nine days; it took eight months to edit it. The filming was done behind glass walls, so the group wouldn't be disturbed by the presence of three cameras.
