Just as the Grateful Dead did not fit their music into an established category, this short film finds a cast of some of the world’s best athletes on a spontaneous journey of skiing, snowboarding, surfing, and music, complete with a soundtrack comprised of only Grateful Dead music.

Vertical Sailing Greenland(fr)

A "team of savages," as their boat captain Bob Shepton calls them, comprised of Sean Villanueva O'Driscoll, Olivier Favresse, Nicolas Favresse, and Ben Ditto, set off for Greenland to attempt a first big wall climb. Arriving in Asia by plane, they prepare the sailboat for two months of self-sufficiency. Accompanied by whales, seagulls, and icebergs, they train on various rock faces before beginning their ascent of the seemingly impossible wall. It takes them 11 days to complete the climb, braving bad weather, the rock itself, the wilderness, and three different bivouac sites—all accompanied by music, of course! The return journey is not without its challenges, as they must avoid a cyclone and cross the Atlantic to reach Oben in Scotland.

"Dispenser", the first Italian documentary entirely dedicated to bouldering, brings together some of the protagonists of the Italian scene, who have resurrected from the past an activity that remained silent for a long time. The director, climber Marzio Nardi, here brings to life one of his obsessions: bouldering, in all the ways in which we can experience it: in competition, while traveling, at the gym, during an ordinary day spent among the rocks, or through the gestures of a climber. The early competitions, gatherings and personalities that brought bouldering to life influenced the growth of climbing as we know it today.

In this documentary, Bear Grylls takes us on a journey through the most extreme version of the world's highest and most legendary peak: Mount Everest. Several leading figures in mountaineering and extreme sports, for whom a standard ascent is no longer enough, transform Everest into a laboratory for extreme challenges. Told through archival footage and reenactments, this elite group seeks new forms of performance, attempting to ski the slopes, snowboard down them, hang-glide or paraglide above the summit ridge, open new routes on more technical and exposed faces, and break climbing records. The recent heavy workload faced by Teton County Search and Rescue crews last winter highlights the fact that some recreational users of the Bridger Teton National Forest are in critical need of more and better information regarding best practices and safe conduct on National Forest lands. Many of these incidents could potentially be avoided with proper planning and critical thinking in the backcountry. The two skiers stop regularly, here to observe climbers scaling the south face of the Aiguille, there to visit the Cosmiques Laboratory. They even take the time to rescue a skier stuck in a crevasse at the Séracs du Géant, before continuing their descent in style onto the Mer de Glace.

Ski Peru is the story of two skiers’ dream of descending the untamed slopes of Huascaran, although maybe 'Ski Peru and die' would be a more appropriate title given the tragic climax to Peter Chrzanowski’s Peruvian odyssey. Filmed long before today’s adrenaline charged ski videos on heavy 16mm movie cameras there is no heavy rock soundtrack, no helicopters, no roboskiers mainlining powder at Mach 5.0. It is a slow moving film that explores man’s relationship with the mountain and what it is to ski into the unknown.
