Overview
When WWI breaks out previously best friends in their New York neighborhood, The Schultz and Du Bois families, take opposite sides in the conflict. When their youngest Little Johnnie Du Bois and Heinie Schultz, backed up by their "allies," decide to fight it out in a vacant lot a battle royal takes place between the two families. But by this time the Schultze’s' eldest son Fritz and the Du Bois’ pretty daughter Marie have fallen in love so when they embrace in front of the families all agree to put their differences aside since "First and foremost we're all good Americans."

She discovers a burglar climbing into a room where the other girls are having a "feed," to which she has not been invited. All the girls scream and run away. In retaliation, she orders that he be kidnapped and held in a nearby cabin, but remorsefully nurses him back to health when he is shot trying to escape.

One would-be sale has them carrying the machine up a large flight of steps, only to find out that a young lady wants them to post a letter for her. The boys later get into an argument knocking off each other's hats, which eventually involves scores of others. A police van eventually carts all those involved away except Stan and Ollie, who afterwards try to find their own headgear amongst the hundreds of others lying on the street.
