'Rasan Piya' is a documentary on the life of renowned Khayal vocalist and poet, Ustad Abdul Rashid Khan. His story is that of an extraordinary musician, poet and teacher; of someone who has not only preserved but also added much to an ancient Indian art form; of a brave man who overcame his physical limitations to create beautiful music and inspire a whole generation of musicians and music lovers. The film explores the various influences that have shaped his life and music. His life also offers a commentary on the change that art in India has witnessed with the decline of the riyasats (kingdoms) and the patronage they offered. Lastly, the film attempts to draw one towards our ancient 'guru shishya parampara', as preserved and practised by one its most revered exponents.

The most important part of any creative endeavor is, in my opinion, the inspiration. The landscape and world of Iceland blew my creativity out of the water and propelled it into outer space. The place is like another planet - beaches of black sand, huge fields of volcanic rock sprawling as far as the eye can see, geysers and volcanos - it really heavily affected me, and brought out some interesting stuff. The Celtic rhythm, a southern warmth, the Latin romanticism, and the Slavic sentimentality is present everywhere. It radiates within the culture, the food, the people and the music. The festival has been around for for the last 55 years. By its size and vibe it has often been compared with Woodstock and the Festival in Rio. About half a million people come to visit every year and they stay for a week during the month of August. What is really magical is that everyone feels rejuvenated after spending day and night in this place. No matter how long your trip will be, you will always want to come again.
