During World War I, Jeanette Gontreau becomes a "godmother" to three Allied soldiers imprisoned in a German camp. Describing herself as an old woman, she sends them cheerful letters and baskets of small gifts until one of the soldiers, Harry Ledyard, informs her that he has been released and will visit her in New York. Panic-stricken, Jeanette dons a wig and spectacles, and although she convinces Harry that she is old and gray, she soon falls in love with him. Harry worships his "godmother," and when secret service agents discover coded messages on her letters, he shields her by assuming the blame.

Mr. and Mrs. Jones and their six children start out for a picnic in the woods with youngest son Jimmie’s beloved Great Dane pup along. The animal proves to be a white elephant as soon as they try to board a trolley car, and they must walk to the picnic grounds. That’s only the beginning of their troubles with Mr. Jones trying everything to get rid of the pup, but when they get home from their "quiet little picnic," Mr. Pup is quietly sitting on the doorstep, and Jones disgustedly gives up.
Wealthy young broker Tom Raine is set upon in a lonely wood by a tramp, knocked out, and stripped of his clothes. Dressed in the tramp's rags, he reaches a hut in time to save veritable wood-nymph June from a beating at the hands of her cruel foster parents. They drive him from the place, but June saves him from being torn to pieces by their huge watchdog, and Tom falls deeply in love with June. They're seen talking by her foster parents, and the father goes after Tom with a club. A fearful fight results, but the timely arrival of Tom's family, who saw the affair from their auto, stops a tragedy. Tom explains matters, his family taking a liking to June, she returns home with them, and Tom and June marry.
Amy Lindel, a church choir singer, goes to the city to pursue a singing career, but finds herself only able to get cabaret gigs. She then becomes entangled in a situation involving stolen diamonds, and is saved by the "good guy" whom she later marries.

Realizing her mistake, Elsie warns Divvy, who bests the half-breed and then rescues Margot from the falls. A lost film.

Harry is repeatedly "beaned" by a beanshooter in the hands of a villainous boy and then Creampuff, but he overcomes the obstacles, defeats Creampuff, and ultimately is arrested for carrying a concealed weapon before being freed by the triumph of justice.

The Youngloves, return to their old flat, sadder and wiser, but happy.

Misled by his brother Severo, Don Julian believes the youth has come to visit Teodora, denouncing them both before dying, ironically driving Ernesto and Teodora from the house to face the world together.
