Faust in the Underworld(fr)

The German legend of a scholar's unholy pact with the Devil would have been very familiar to most moviegoers (at least European ones), so Georges Méliès' early cinematic treatment likely got away with simply offering a fancifully illustrated late episode without the earlier narrative context (however, spoken narration provides some of the latter in this restored print). Tempted by Mephistopheles with all kinds of dancing and ethereal babes, Faust is at first excited and then terrified by the sight of various demons and monsters. The painted-set designers really went hog wild on this one, depicting the (sometimes sexy) torments of subterranean Hell with in bold terms (even when ballerinas prance in the foreground). The Prolific Magical Egg(fr)

A human skeleton is placed upon a table by an attendant. When the attendant leaves the room the skeleton begins kicking his legs and throwing his arms about and suddenly turns into a magician. The magician produces an egg, performing several sleight-of-hand tricks, and places it upon the table with the small end downward. He then crudely draws a human face upon the shell, and the egg immediately begins growing larger and larger until it reaches the size of a normal head.

Bout de Zan is a young boy by description and a petty thief by vocation. In this short, he does indeed steal an elephant from a circus, parading it around town and using it to beg for money. Due to their rambunctiousness, Bout de Zan and the elephant (!) need saving from the authorities.

A housewife is preparing a duck à l'orange in her kitchen. But the reluctant bird tries to escape from her but the woman manages to recaptures it and plucks it savagely. Once the duck is put in the oven, an alligator unexpectedly appears in the kitchen, threatening the cook.

Inklings, Issue 12(en)

Series of animated vignettes linked by a disembodied hand which appears to be drawing the illustrations. In the first segment, the hand turns around a drawing of an old man and canine-hero Rin Tin Tin magically appears. In the second set of segments, drawings of children morph into adults who look completely unlike their youthful countenances. in the final segment, the hand slices up "The House That Jack Built" into the pictures of the most significant characters in the children's rhyme, and then reattaches the slips of paper to reform the house.

Mickey is a railroad engineer with an anthropomorphic locomotive. He feeds the train (coal), then feeds his dog, then makes lunch for himself. Minnie drops by and plays a tune on her fiddle while Mickey dances. After lunch, the train has trouble climbing a hill, and the last car with Minnie aboard detaches and runs away.
