Bare Essence is an American television soap opera which aired on the NBC network during the 1982-1983 season. The series revolved around Tyger Hayes' efforts to succeed in the business world. In the first episode, her new husband Chase Marshall is killed in a racing car accident. Chase's father Hadden opposes Tyger's efforts to join the family business, Kellico, but she is encouraged by Hadden's sister Margaret to try her hand with a new line of perfumes. Ava, the widow of Hadden's other son, is concerned that any success Tyger might have will undermine her son Marcus' position in the company. Both Ava and Marcus' wife Muffin plotted to undermine Tyger's success. To this end, Ava eventually seduces and marries Hadden. Tyger's mother, Lady Bobbi Rowan, falls in love with a Greek millionaire, Niko Theopolous, who wants to exact revenge on the Marshalls.

The Mark Steel Lectures are a series of radio and television programmes. Written and delivered by Mark Steel, each scripted lecture presents arguments for the importance of a historical figure. The lectures were originally broadcast on BBC Radio 4 over three series between 1999 and 2002. Many of the arguments were illustrated by miniature sketches. These sketches featured Mark Steel, Martin Hyder, Mel Hudson, Carla Mendonça, Femi Elufowoju Junior and Debbie Isitt. The first series was subtitled "A series of lectures about Englishmen who changed the course of history", with the remaining two changing this to "A series of lectures about people with a passion". The programme transferred to television in 2003, with an Open University series on BBC Four, which was later repeated on BBC Two. It was set perhaps a couple of decades ahead in a world being slowly drowned by technology, a world in which traffic jams are the norm instead of the exception, and where the people avoid getting caught in the rain for better reasons than simply not wanting to get wet. The Rachel of the title is the younger sister of an up-and-coming marketing executive who has just secured a contract with a wealthy but repulsive millionaire who is into toxic waste, which he stores in secret for large sums of money. Rachel finds that, through a large bank of video screens in her sister's apartment, her wishes can come true when she brings to life the image on an anti-pollution poster. This new friend helps her to make up her mind about her own future. The style of the production was fresh and colourful, the pace slow and moody for the most part, and it made for an interesting half-hour's viewing.
