He wanted to marry his childhood sweetheart, Princess Li Zhenzhen of the Prince's Mansion. However, this marriage between the literary and martial families aroused the fear of Mingde, a high-ranking official in the court. So Mingde designed to promote Cheng Wendao's sworn brother Gao Jianxiong, and falsely passed on the imperial decree to exterminate Cheng Wendao's family. Gao Jianxiong, who felt guilty, let Cheng Wendao go, but the two had a grudge from then on. The seriously injured Wendao was rescued by Shaolin monks and taken to Shaolin Pharmacy for treatment, and a story about "Zen, martial arts, and medicine" began.
