Set in Oulton, Leeds - some of the last remaining post-war prefabricated houses in the UK are still standing. Residents of this ex coal mining village now at threat of eviction share their stories of community and family as they look to their future. ‘Hanging On’ is a docu-drama that combines artistic visuals of residents suspended in mid air, literally hanging onto their homes and audio interviews about the strength of what happens when people come together. It reminds us about the struggles of people who are slipping through the cracks of society and what it means to have a home.

Yol, who works for a major company, dreams of the day him and his partner, can have a legal wedding with overcoming the prejudice against people living with HIV/AIDS.

The documentary Two Doors traces the Yongsan Tragedy of 2009, which took the lives of five evictees and one police SWAT unit member. Left with no choice but to climb up a steel watchtower in an appeal to the right to live, the evictees were able to come down to the ground a mere 25 hours after they had started to build the watchtower, as cold corpses. And the surviving evictees became lawbreakers. The announcement of the Public Prosecutors’ Office that the cause of the tragedy lay in the illegal and violent demonstration by the evictees, who had climbed up the watchtower with fire bombs, clashed with voices of criticism that an excessive crackdown by government power had turned a crackdown operation into a tragedy.

Even the most loyal admirer of Tom Jobim, the most documented Brazilian artist throughout the world, cannot imagine the surprises he will encounter in this film. It contains previously unreleased pictures and images captured for 15 years by Ana Jobim, his wife, that show details of the life and work of Tom Jobim. Shot in New York, Rio de Janeiro and the family ranch in Poço Fundo, the film shows his intimacy with his children, the birth of important songs, parties at home with other musicians, and even a unusual Jobim in pajamas, in an “expedition” in the woods. “When someone visits the intimacy of a great artists, possibly the distance between him and the myth is felt to be smaller. For me it is the opposite; the distance becomes greater and I have more conscience of the myth”, says Ana.

As we encounter the vista of female factory workers in Cambodia that poignantly resembles the labor history of Korea, the form of labor changes its appearance but the essence of the bread-and-butter question remains still.
