Game(en)

A South Shore High School student film that is an allegory on the wastefulness of war and the duplicity of those who wage it. Filmmaker Wayne Williams, who was 17 at the time, cuts back and forth between a chess game and a guerrilla theater war game to underscore the sense of importance of the fighters and the cynicism of those who control their lives - and deaths. The film is part of a series of student films that all won awards at the 1971 Young Chicago Filmmaker’s Festival.

Two extremely aggressive (guys?) fall into a bloodlust and (a) fight (is?) broken up! Two of the fights (are so?) much that everything gets (maybe 'spirals' instead?) out of control. Sigi pisses (instead of localized British slang use 'ignores'?) the harmonious gaiety of his wife so (maybe 'and'?) that (maybe 'instead'?) he kills his old brutal way (which we know because... ?). (this overview is a mess)

A domestic black comedy, MISTER E expresses some of the edgier mischief and discontent that women of mid-century America could rarely express openly. This short film narrates the revenge acted out by a young wife, left at home while her husband is at a card game; by staging a rendezvous with a mannequin, this woman provokes an eruption of jealousy and violence before bringing about the desired marital tenderness. Preserved by Chicago Film Archives with support from the Women’s Film Preservation Fund.
