Kneuss is an eccentric. He has been hired by his childhood friend Schnaffelmann as a consultant in his advertising agency. During a visit to Schnaffelmann's home, he recognizes his childhood sweetheart Cäcilie Bucher in Schnaffelmann's wife Cécile, and the old familiarity between Kneuss and Cécile, who is frustrated in her marriage, quickly returns.
