7.0This is the debut of Fourplay, a popular quartet comprised of keyboardist Bob James, guitarist Lee Ritenour, bassist Nathan East, and drummer Harvey Mason. The music sounds more or less like a Bob James small-group date with Ritenour as a major soloist. The style is between jazz, R&B, and pop with an emphasis on lightweight originals, soulful and moderately funky rhythms, and predictable radio-friendly music. Nothing unexpected occurs, but fans of James and Ritenour should enjoy both this CD and Fourplay in general.

0.0As a musician who cares about Nusantara music, Ridho Hafiedz realizes that the wealth of musical instruments in many regions is threatened with extinction and almost lost. Bali, as an island that has long been known for its sustainable arts and culture, is also no exception to facing similar threats. Ridho, together with Yura Yunita, a musician from West Java, took a Nada Nusantara trip to Karangasem, Bali, to trace the trail of a musical instrument that has a long historical record called “penting”.
0.0Ridho Hafiedz, besides being a musician but also a local son, has long wanted to learn more about Ambonese music in a way that he has never done before. 5.5The story of the film is a mapping of the path from zero to the top - losses, wins and facts. The background film also reveals the history of rap and hip-hop in Slovakia. Three decades of the Slovak hip-hop scene are retold by Rytmus himself, where he reveals various behind-the-scenes incidents or unexpected pitfalls and disappointments that he experienced in his musical career. All of this taught him something, changed him, but most of all hardened him. In addition to him, the documentary will feature a number of those who "crossed" his path or directly or indirectly influenced his work during his thirty-year journey through hip-hop.

7.2This newly rediscovered short was created in Jim's home studio in Bethesda, MD around 1961. It is one of several experimental shorts inspired by the music of jazz great Chico Hamilton. At the end, in footage probably shot by Jerry Juhl, Jim demonstrates his working method.
0.0CAT AND MOUSE is Jim Henson’s second and more ambitious interpretation of a composition from jazz drummer Chico Hamilton whom Jim met and collaborated with in 1961. This short, imbued with sly humor, portrays a brief narrative of the dance performed when predator meets prey. 4.0On September 11 and 12, 2007, singer / songwriter / guitarist Ani DiFranco played two sold-out shows before a hometown audience in Buffalo, New York. What made those nights so special wasn’t just the music—because that’s always special at an Ani show—but the fact that she was playing the inaugural shows in her very own venue, a downtown church once slated for demolition that has been beautifully restored as a state-of-the-art music hall and newly renamed “Babeville.” Ani took the opportunity to fashion a two-night retrospective of sorts, performing songs from every stage of her fabled career in breathtaking new arrangements with her latest touring band; Allison Miller on drums, Todd Sickafoose on upright bass and Mike Dillon on vibes and percussion. The spirit of celebration was in the air, and energy in the room-both onstage and in the audience—was extraordinary.
6.9The film follows four families, with different nationalities (French, German, Russian and American) but with the same passion for music, from the 1930s to the 1960s. The various story lines cross each other time and again in different places and times, with their own theme scores that evolve as time passes. The main event in the film is the Second World War, which throws the stories of the four musical families together and mixes their fates. Although all characters are fictional, many of them are loosely based on historical musical icons (Édith Piaf, Josephine Baker, Herbert von Karajan, Glenn Miller, Rudolf Nureyev, etc.) The Boléro dance sequence at the end brings all the threads together.
