At a summit of world leaders, the representatives of the two world superpowers court the allegiances of third-world diplomats to tilt the balance of global power in their favor. The last diplomat to remain unaligned, Lopitos instead harangues the superpowers for infringing on the rights of developing countries to self determination, talking to them with his point of view as a citizen not as ambassador because he arranged his demise as ambassador one day before his speech.

After he leaves, the family is almost destitute and are exploited by Gupta. Then some months later, a young man, Anand, comes to visit them, informing them that Navendhu has sent him. He gives them some money for day to day expenses, gets some clothes for everyone, and a wheelchair for Mohan. Rajan "Raju" Khanna lives with his elderly father Nihalchand, his mom, and his younger sister. He studies Arts in college, and has a sweetheart, fellow-collegian Neena Bakshi. When Rajan graduates, his father wants him to work at the same firm where he's employed, but Rajan wants to join the military. His father opposes this, and after he has a heart attack, Rajan accepts the job offer and starts working in his father's office. He does not do well, his father passes away, and he joins the military. When he returns, nothing is the same. Neena is engaged to marry a handsome, rich young doctor, and her dad refuses to even consider Rajan for his son-in-law. Disheartened, he returns to the military and goes into the war zone. He volunteers to rescue a senior military officer, gets through enemy lines, and is shocked to discover that the senior military officer is none other than Major Bakshi. Both men know that only one of them can make it safely back to his base.

Monica Kapoor lives a wealthy lifestyle in London, England. When she hears that her estranged brother, Kishan, has been killed while traveling in a train, she returns home to India and asks his much younger and drop dead gorgeous widow, Shobha, to move out so that she could sell the house, pick up the cash, return to London and get married to her boyfriend, Manoj. She does get to sell the house and compels Shobha to move in with Kishan's friend, Amar, but Manoj steals the cash and disappears. Humbled by this incident, Monica also moves in with Amar and Shobha, as well as Amar's younger brother, Chickoo, and ends up falling in love with Amar. She decides to marry him at the Registrar's Office. When he does not show, she returns home and finds him getting intimate with Shobha.
