Salamander Days is an atmospheric meditation on friendship, grief, self-discovery, and adolescent consciousness. Set in an American high school, taking place in the midst of a student’s passing, and deeply rooted in the mythology of the salamander, the film explores the concepts of memory and creation, as well as the transformative experience of loss.

Desert Vows(en)

As her wedding day approaches, Hunter and her three bridesmaids embark on a road trip to Las Vegas for one last hoorah together. As the girls venture from the city, they decompress and let their personal barriers fall. An impromptu sightseeing excursion into the desert leads to a clash of anxieties and attitudes between Hunter, the bridesmaids, and her fiancé as Hunter searches for the road that’s right for her.

atariko proba(xx)

While trying to use a random video processing app I programed for a series of shorts based on old basque footage, the program got buggy and produced very glitchy and broken images. I thought this preliminar test (atariko proba) gone wrong deserved to be a short on its own, so here it is. This has been made from footage of these movies, several of them digitized and shared by Euskadiko Filmategia: Biarritz : la plage et la mer (Félix Mesguich, 1899) , Irun (1912), Eusko-ikusgaiak (Manuel Intxausti, 1923), El día de Guipúzcoa (Agustín Macasoli, 1924), Los apuros de Octavio (Hermanos Azcona, 1926), Fiestas de Plencia (Leon Armando Zalvidea, 1927), San Fermín (1928), El mayorazgo de Basterretxe (Hermanos Azcona, 1929). Scenic Jogging(en)

Woman chasing projected images of typical screensavers such as idyllic meadows and mountainscapes. These images are embellished by design programs to be more attractive to appeal to our primal desire to be outside rather than in front of a computer or in ugly urban landscapes. Even if she were to ever catch up her object of desire, she will find it never existed in the first place, and she has been chasing the unattainable.

The model’s feet are uncomfortably squeezed into the heels, and her movements are slippery on slick silver liquid, before she slowly and ominously destroys the glass pane separating the subject from the viewer.

An abstract computer-generated film. The image is of squares revolving in space around and through each other. Colors and forms multiply and divide against a beautiful symphonic score by George Kleinsinger.

The Flower Market(en)

New York's floral district, like Amsterdam's is a scene that is most vibrant at the crack of dawn when flowers are shipped in to wholesalers. Very convenient timing if you've spent all night at the disco! If you want it fresh, you have to be there early. Not only are the better florists there to get the freshest flowers, but also the latest, freshest, and hottest dish. The scenario of this video is inspired by the central core of the design world: innuendo, rumors and gossip. Hearsay based on the cruising practices of one of New York's top gay floral designers. A vignette in a pastoral country setting–full of sunflowers and wild flowers–shows what the honey bee is really attracted to. Two lusty youths get it on atop a bed of exotic varieties.

Essential(nl)

Essentieel (1964) is a short experimental film made by Belgian abstract painter Jef Verheyen in collaboration with poet Paul De Vree. A cinematic equivalent of Verheyen’s attempts in representing the warmth and vibrations of light in his monochrome or ‘essentialist’ paintings of the late 1950s and 1960s, the film plays on the tensions between abstract color surfaces and natural elements.
