The Battle for Miggershausen(de)

This technically quite well-made cartoon from pre-war Nazi Germany is a commercial (or propaganda piece) for Volksempfänger ("people's receiver"), inexpensive radios. First we see agricultural statistics: the far-away village of Miggershausen is quite below standards in milk and egg production. An anthropomorphic radio undertakes the long voyage by express train, steam train, hay carriage to Miggershausen to advertise its services. It is not well received. Then, it collects and leads an army of radios to try again. They flood all the farmhouses and seem to be more convincing that way - at day, they spread agricultural knowledge to bring milk and egg production up to standards; later, they just play music and illustrate how various people enjoy various kinds of music.

Footrot Flats: The Dog's Tale(en)

Featuring the characters from Murray Ball's "Footrot Flats" (New Zealands most beloved local cartoon strip), questions to be answered include: Will Wal Footrot win the affections of Cheeky Hobson over the sleazy Spit Murphy? He escapes a fictional land in which the civilians' actions are controlled and monitored by the government. The actor deviates from the controlled community for freedom in YAASS land. As he flees, viewers are given two actions that the actor could take. The story continues on from the actions they choose, leading to different endings.

The First Ever Commercial for Cats(en)

On Wednesday 27th January 1999, Whiskas Singles made advertising history. The first-ever commercial for cats was shown on British TV. The results? Thousands of cats across the length and breadth of Britain jumping, staring and listening. (Apart from the ones who completely ignored it.) Even cat owners enjoyed the ad. It was splashed across the national press and TV and made the news as far away as Australia and the US. Now it's on video, along with an explanation of how the ad works and reactions from both cats and owners. Watch it with your cat and see what he or she thinks. (In our tests, 8 out of 10 preferred it.)
