Re-enacment(en)

For this work Alÿs purchased a gun in Mexico City then walked through the city streets with the weapon in his hand. After eleven minutes he was arrested by the police. The following day he repeated the action, this time in cooperation with the police. By presenting a record of this dramatic action alongside footage of its reenactment, Alÿs blurs the boundaries between documentation and fiction. Questioning the concept of authenticity, this work demonstrates “how media can distort and dramatize the immediate reality of a moment,” the artist has said. Railings(en)

This video work shows the artist walking the streets of London, trailing a wooden drumstick along a series of metal railings, making a percussive, sometimes bell-like noise. The camera follows behind, focusing on the stick as it hits the railings. Occasionally it cuts to wide-angle shots, capturing the awkward and strangely humorous presence of other people. The work is a playful example of one of Alÿs’s ‘interventions’ in a city.

Mike and Jeanne get to know each other, meet family and friends, touch each other, sleep together, go on holiday together, celebrate birthdays and say "I love you". What complicates things between them: their relationship is based on a contract of 14 clauses that are supposed to define all areas of being together. A small video camera is their constant companion.

The Costa D'Amalfi in the south of Italy is both wild and beautiful, framed by the Tyrrhenian Sea and the foothills of the Lattari Mountains as well as historic and picturesque towns. Sorrento marks the beginning of a journey through the land where the lemon trees blossom and along one of the most beautiful panoramic roads in the world, the Amalfitana. The Amalfitana travels along a remarkable coastline.

In his Installations and his numerous paintings Kabakov creates a world of its own, which leaves the heaviness of socialist and post-socialist life far behind. The film links Ilya Kabakovs artistic spaces with insights into Russian everyday life, which itself sometimes appears like an installation by the artist.

In early 2012, Angela Washko founded “The Council on Gender Sensitivity and Behavioral Awareness in World of Warcraft” as a performative intervention within the often misogynistic environment of World of Warcraft (WoW), one of the most popular multiplayer, role-playing games. Instead of continuing to follow the quest structure of the game (killing dragons, getting better equipment, joining more competitive guilds, etc.) and while performing as “The Council" Washko facilitates discussions with players inside the game about the ways in which the community therein addresses women and how players respond to the term “FEMINISM.” Washko is interested in the impulse of the community/player-base to create a somewhat oppressive, misogynistic space for women within a physical environment that is otherwise accessible and inviting.
