BalletBoyz at the Roundhouse documents the life and work of this ground-breaking company, with footage from their 2014 Roundhouse performances. It was the culmination of a two-year tour during which they were awarded Best Independent Company at the National Dance Awards, while choreographer Russell Maliphant won Best Modern Choreography and lighting designer Michael Hulls won an Olivier Award. Featuring Liam Scarlett's Serpent with music by Max Richter and Russell Maliphant's Fallen, with music by Armand Amar, and accompanied by the BBC Concert Orchestra conducted by Paul Murphy, the film also includes interviews with the dancers and choreographers along with insights into their creative processes as well as behind-the-scenes footage.

The film choreographically covers the distance between two women and their mirroring selves, under Laurie Spiegel's soundscape and with the ambiance of VHS video. Their bodies, sometimes two and others four, are always connected with a rope, influenced by white noise retro interference, sound scratches and pauses. They approach each other until they connect and then finally completely disappear, nullifying the distance between them. The reverse movement of these similar bodies-idols aims to compose a dance of the two and the one, our close and more distant self and to reach to the void in between them.

To speak of that ballet is very difficult because the theme is so popular as a fairy tale, adapted by Perrault from German folklore and then recuperated from the same folklore by the Grimm brothers, and what's more turned into an unforgettable film by Walt Disney. Angelin Preljocaj was thus trying to break a mould in which that character and her story had been cast seemingly for ever. And it is a success. Because first the setting, the stage direction are very interesting and rich. Rich are the costumes. Rich are the main ideas of the setting like the enormous magic mirror coming down from the sky, or like the deep underground mine turned into a vertical surface on which the seven dwarfs are dancing like dragon-flies on their strings.
