0.0As queer trans and gender non-conforming children of the Vietnamese diaspora, we are fragmented at the crossroads of being displaced from not only a sense of belonging to our ancestral land, but also our own bodies which are conditioned by society to stray away from our most authentic existence. Yet these bodies of ours are the vessels we sail to embark on a lifetime voyage of return to our original selves. It is our bodies that navigate the treacherous tides of normative systems that impose themselves on our very being. And it is our bodies that act as community lighthouses for collective liberation. 0.0Lale is a film poem based on the poem Tulips by Sylvia Plath. Diane, who is struggling with her mental health, in her late 20s and in a mental health facility where she is getting watched and taken care of 24/7. With her time being in there, she has gained the awareness of how her mental health affects her and the struggles it brings to the state of her life. She makes a connection with some red tulips that were brought to her while she was in the facility; and these tulips were a reminder of her conflicting emotions between the burdens of life and the calm acceptance of death. Bright red tulips induce Diane the freedom that will come with her death. With Diane getting closer to her own death the tulips will make her ready to leave this world. By taking away her life’s desire to not feel, these red flowers have left her helpless before a life force that course through all things.

0.0On April 1st, 2022, my grandfather passed away and i felt lost. I think my path changed when, some days after he passed away, i was offered a small VHS camera. Throughout this journey, we get to the conclusion that memories are more than just static photographs in our minds, they're alive and in constant movement, changing while we evolve as individuals. These memories have influence and help us to move on.
