Overview
145 million years ago an adolescent Allosaurus lay down to die in a dried up river bed. In 1991 scientists discovered his perfectly preserved body and nicknamed him Big Al. This is the story of this predatory dinosaur's life - how he grew from a tiny hatchling to the terror of the Jurassic plains, why his body was covered in so many wounds and how he ended up in the river bed. The second part tells the story of the extraordinary forensics, spectacular paleontological finds and intricate studies of Al's closest living relatives to unravel his intriguing life for the film.

Unlike its sister series, Wakfu, there is no great overarching adventure to be had, nor any powerful villain to thwart. Instead, most episodes are about the eponymous character regaling his adopted grandson with tales about his adventures when he was younger, usually based around a trophy of some sort that he gained from it.

When Dinosaurs Roamed America is a two-hour American television program that first aired on Discovery Channel in 2001. It was directed by Pierre de Lespinois and narrated by actor John Goodman. The dinosaurs were designed by Paleo-artist and art director Mark Dubeau, who is also noted for creating dinosaurs on a myriad of other Discovery Channel and National Geographic specials. The dinosaur animation was directed by noted animator Don Waller at Meteor Studios, in Montreal, Canada. The music was composed by Christopher Franke. When Dinosaurs Roamed America premiered to 5 million viewers.
