Based on a short story by Sinclair Ross, the film was produced by the National Film Board of Canada and Atlantis Films of Toronto. It follows a housewife who struggles with loneliness after her husband ventures into a blizzard. The film received an Academy Award nomination for Best Live Action Short Film.

The kindness he showed was unexpectedly returned following the war when he was being held captive by the Allies. The film was nominated for an Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film.
