Hippodrome Races, Dreamland, Coney Island(en)

A series of races and exhibitions is taking place at the hippodrome track in Coney Island's Dreamland. First there is a simple race between two riders, followed by several other competitions involving larger numbers of horses. Finally, there is a race between two chariots driven by teams of horses. After the races are over, a parade takes place on the track.

He emerges in company with Mr Cook, the manager of the theatre, and is immediately surrounded by the enthusiastic crowd. Men wave their hats in the air. Policemen try to keep the crowd under control. Sir George White was famous as the defender of Ladysmith, and was invalided home.

He left a colossal archive representative of modern meteorology, including pictorial records of every kind-- this one an early success, artistically.

The Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat(fr)

A group of people are standing along the platform of a railway station in La Ciotat, waiting for a train. One is seen coming, at some distance, and eventually stops at the platform. Doors of the railway-cars open and attendants help passengers off and on. Popular legend has it that, when this film was shown, the first-night audience fled the café in terror, fearing being run over by the "approaching" train. This legend has since been identified as promotional embellishment, though there is evidence to suggest that people were astounded at the capabilities of the Lumières' cinématographe.
