As the investigation progresses, the situation becomes more complex and the book becomes increasingly well-known, raising numerous controversies. Plagued by doubts, the protagonist has to face facts: reality only exists in the imagination of individuals.

Return is a methodical construction of the approach of an individual towards an unseen goal, which assumes metaphorical significance. Viola moves toward the camera/viewer, pausing every few steps to ring a bell, at which point he is momentarily thrust back to his starting place, and then advanced again. Finally reaching his destination, he is taken through all of the previous stages in a single instant and returned to the source of his journey.

It's three years after the events of the original Battle Royale, and Shuya Nanahara is now an internationally-known terrorist determined to bring down the government. His terrorist group, Wild Seven, stages an attack that levels several buildings in Tokyo on Christmas Day, killing 8000 people. The plot of the film called "the Maiden Tower" tells about a casual acquaintance of two different people, each of them having their own personal relationships. However, during the acquaintance, both of them realize that they have met "their kind of man." Throughout the film, the characters have to make a choice: either keep everything as it is and return to their lives or start a new relationship with "their kind of man", and this is what each of them has always secretly dreamt.
