This Pete Smith Specialty short was produced in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Labor. Using humor, it shows what can happen when tools and machinery are misused and safety warnings are ignored.

Condemned(en)

“Condemned” (c.1960s) is a color fire prevention film presented by Fire Prevention Through Films. It was produced by Julian Olansky in cooperation with fire departments across Connecticut (Andover, Eagleville, Hebron, Mansfield, Willimantic, University of Connecticut Fire Dept.). The film warns against the dangers of fire and not having a proper fire safety plan. The film starts out by focussing heavily on the risks associated with carelessly smoking cigarettes at home before showing other scenarios that can turn deadly.

Ari then works at Glory Oil, who he assumes a big oil companies, but it turns out only a lubircant distributor. So he is a lubricant salesman. Having experienced the difficulty as a lubricant salesman, Ari is called to fill the position of IT Manager. It turns out that the company makes a wrong call. It should be another Ari Budiman. Unintentional mistake is maximized by Ari.

Tri (Ray Sahetapy) is a successful entrepreneur with his advertising company, Bamboom, but also a failed father. His sons Aris (Pandji Pragiwaksono) and Rachmat (David Saragih) grow up as spoiled and arrogant young men. One day following a strife between Aris and a client of his, Tri contrives a plot to fake his death and bequeathe his wealth to a scavenger he meets on the street, Odi (Ence Bagus). But the plan doesn’t go well. In fact Tri really dies. In the blink of an eye his death turns Aris and Rachmat’s lives upside down. According to their father’s will, they have no right whatsoever to claim their father’s assets. They suddenly are impoverished while Odi made rich. Not only losing wealth, Aris also loses his girlfriend, Imelda (Tara Basro). He and Rachmat, who never get along before, must now join forces to find their mother, Asri (Ratna Riantiarno), who apparently still lives, and in affluence too.

Amidst this chaos, Ye Feng plays the role of the father of the protagonist. He inadvertently gets caught up in the raucous antics and pandemonium that unfold within the school. This film marked Ye Feng’s final appearance in cinema.
