Six sketches, featuring off-screen human voices and on-screen chimpanzees in men's clothing, illustrating six aspects of movie making: script writing, using a camera, working in a darkroom, editing, art and animation, and shooting a scene with special attention to sound. The screen goes black between each sketch. The narration is straightforward with the chimps providing comic, contradicting subtexts.

Return is a methodical construction of the approach of an individual towards an unseen goal, which assumes metaphorical significance. Viola moves toward the camera/viewer, pausing every few steps to ring a bell, at which point he is momentarily thrust back to his starting place, and then advanced again. Finally reaching his destination, he is taken through all of the previous stages in a single instant and returned to the source of his journey.

Forty years ago, a documentary film about Soviet cardiac surgeons was released. Perhaps, for the first time on our screen, doctors reflected on the value of human life, talked about their experiences caused by the death of a patient, about the imperfection of Soviet medicine, the lack of knowledge and responsibility of doctors. For forty years, medicine has made an incredible breakthrough, but the moral problems that plague doctors have remained the same. “You can’t get used to death” is the leitmotif of the paintings, old and new. The film was awarded as the Best Non-Fiction Film at the Russian Film Festival "Window to Europe" - 2016.
