Polka in Athens is a non-fiction documentary that tellsMaria’s story. Her grandfather was a left-wing partisan during the Civil War in Greece (1946-49), who escaped to Poland where he lived for 30 years as a political refugee. His granddaughter Maria grew up in Poland. Like many young people of her generation, she left Poland to work and travel. She came to Greece for a vacation and decided to stay. She lived in a Polish neighbourhood in Athens. Her dream was to be an actress and, ironically enough, she got an important role in a play about the Civil War, Dying as a Country. Her dream came true and she completed a circle of immigration: her Greek grandfather escaped to Poland as a political refugee and she came back to Greece as an economic immigrant. However, after the financial crisis hits Athens, she will be forced to return to Poland, thus closing the circle

A documentary about unemployed people who bought fruit and vegetables at moderate prices at the wholesale market and sold these in the streets of Frankfurt. Since they had no permits they were constantly with their bulky carts on the run from the police. One part of the film was shot at the fairgrounds in front of the wholesale market. Newspaper and lottery ticket vendors, propagandists offering their ware for a few pfennigs, all convey the mood of a time when need made people inventive.

This piece shows an environment stripped of the human figure, evoked only by its vestiges, apparently abandoned in the solitude of a barren terrain and an inclement climate. The title of the piece appeals an archaic link between who looks and the environment that crosses with a certain strangeness in capturing a small fragment of the history of the crossroads.

Ultimately, a series of happy times will cancel the fake marriage, mother's surgery, and leave Kosmas the money to marry and start married life with greater financial comfort.
