Two neutron stars, in the form of two people living in isolation, follow gravity through to the all-consuming explosion of binary coalescence. Based on the work of astrophysicist Dr Linqing Wen.
The Scientist
8.0An incredible travel through space and time between the walls of the Paris Observatory, which is celebrating its 350th birthday. Place of discoveries such as speed of light or Neptune’s existence, it is still today one of the oldest operating observatories and the greatest hub in the world for astronomy and astrophysics researches, second only to Harvard.
10.0For over three decades, NASA and an international team of scientists and engineers pushed the limits of technology, innovation, and perseverance to build and launch the James Webb Space Telescope, the most powerful space observatory ever created. Cosmic Dawn brings audiences behind the scenes with the Webb film crew, and never-before-heard testimonies revealing the real story of how this telescope overcame all odds.
5.8A documentary chronicling the history of the telescope from the time of Galileo. Featuring interviews with leading scientists discussing Galileo's first use of the telescope to the latest discoveries in cosmology.
7.7After his show That remains my joy! Alexandre Astier returns to the stage ventures where we do not expect it and raises the question of extraterrestrial life.
7.0Kate Humble and Helen Czerski reveal the inner workings of the sun and investigate why scientists think changes in the sun's behaviour may have powerful effects on our climate.
6.3In an age when misinformation, alternative facts, and conspiracy theories have become mainstream, UFOs have risen to become one of the most-talked about pop culture phenomena. With all of this noise, how can we expect anyone to know how much of this is true? What is in our skies? What do we know, and how do we know it? And most importantly: Are we being visited?
8.0An outward look into the universe, as scientists challenge traditional planetary thinking, and reveal the existence of unknown worlds: exoplanets.
An aspiring astronomer happens upon a radio frequency and meets a thought-to-be-dead astronaut trapped in space.
5.0A physicist's life-long work comes to fruition when he is reluctantly partnered with a gifted young assistant. Ego divides them when they receive an unknown signal from space.
0.0Infinitude is a meditation on the cosmic evolution of matter and energy over time. Experimental filmmaking techniques such as time-lapse, high-speed, and stop-motion photography were used to photograph handmade props, fluid dynamics, and angular momentum. Infinitude is a handmade representation of the exponential growth of complexity in the cosmos.
10.0How can we probe the far reaches of the Cosmos to decode the mystery of our origins? In Grenoble, the capital of the French Alps, or from the peaks of Mauna Kea (Hawaii), Cerro Paranal, and much higher still, a team of researchers led by Jérôme Bouvier probes the far reaches of the Cosmos to decode the mystery of our origins. The distant and different "worlds" glimpsed thanks to the most powerful ground-based and space-based telescopes are a source of beauty and emotion, as well as new challenges. At the crossroads of genres, both a visual essay and a documentary, the film KUMULIPO, directed by Gérard Kosicki, also offers a poetic journey rooted in the constant advancement of our knowledge. 13.8 billion years have passed since the emergence of spacetime. Today, we glimpse what we do not yet know…
0.0BLACK SUNS: AN ASTROPHYSICS ADVENTURE is a documentary about chasing eclipses and science dreams. It chronicles the lives of two globetrotting African American astrophysicists, Dr. Alphonse Sterling and Dr. Hakeem Oluseyi, as they follow the two solar eclipses that occurred in 2012. Dr. Alphonse Sterling of NASA, stationed in Japan, had early success in the US, but left his home country to further cultivate his wide-ranging interests. Dr. Hakeem Oluseyi of the Florida Institute of Technology, is a scientist who beat the odds of poverty, and a poor early education, to get where he is today. The film is hosted by award-winning cultural astronomer Dr. Jarita Holbrook.
