    Bored by her hardworking husband, Tess goes to an illegal gambling den with a former suitor, Arthur Sinclair. The den is robbed and subsequently raided by police. Tess loses her rings and lies to her husband about her whereabouts. Her lies are exposed when the rings are found by the police. While trying to manage the fallout, she writes a compromising letter that is intercepted and used to blackmail her for $15,000. After being embroiled in further dangerous, fraudulent activity, her innocence regarding the robbery and associated crimes is established through the confession of a criminal named Peter Vanetti.

He becomes a servant in the family. They are giving a reception. John is serving the guests. He finds a note pushed into his hand as he stands before the curtained window. It says that unless he hands over a gem, which is displayed among the wedding presents, the crooks will get him. He tries to steal the jewel, but Marie prevents it. She then causes the arrest of the crooks who are waiting to receive the jewel.

Margaret flees with Cameron, observed by the chauffeur who enters the house with the intention of stealing. Meanwhile Bryant has regained consciousness and in his twisted mind determines to kill himself and frame his wife. He’s almost successful until at almost the last moment his butler steps forward and acknowledges that Bryant was shot as they struggle with his pistol which the chauffeur confirms.
