Because he’s land-rich but cash-poor, he grudgingly accepts an offer from a production company to use his land as a film location. Alexander holds onto a deeply traditional vision of his world just as the film’s director, a creative urbanite named Fabian, maintains his own vision for his film. Both men are hoping for the best: Alexander wants to save his ranch, and Fabian wants to be catapulted to the next 'it' filmmaker.

A family asks a young psychiatrist to be their guest for a while to untangle the circumstances of their father's illness. He's developed a suicidal fixation for ropes and knots among other things. While deeply involved in analyzing the patient's delirium, the doctor begins to lose track of what is taking place. The task of "how to help" is twisted into "who am I? Doctor or patient? Chance guest, member of this suffering family, or a catholic priest who has dreamed this all up?" In order to get a handle on it all, it's best to start from the beginning, but why do things keep shifting, changing?

They meet at an anti-regime demonstration and become friends. They don’t want anything to do with politics, both want to get married and have kids, but also get rich. Crazy plans and risky attempts to realize their shared dreams land them in many sticky situations in the post-revolution chaos. Too much money gets in the way of the power of friendship.
