Overview
The story follows a man who was deeply influenced by television and the film industry since he was young and goes on his way to become successful in the field. It was a period near the end of the 1970's. Feng Du (Jin Shijia) is a young man who lived in the small alleys of Old Beijing. When he first came across a TV at his friend's house, he was drawn to the little boombox and mesmerized by the moving pictures. During high school, he once built himself a TV from discarded materials just to prove something to his girlfriend. As the nation opens its doors to reform, Feng Du jumps at the chance to pursue his dreams and he starts on a path to becoming a producer.

She manages to get the attention of Eri, a daughter of a rich family and head of the school's treasure hunting club. She asks Aika to salvage something from the sea floor and Aika accepts the assignment. However, upon seeing the state-of-the-art submarine loaded onto Eri's private cruiser and discovering their destination, Aika realizes the dangerous nature of this mission, culminating in a clash with a group of armed high school girls on the southern islands.

Hawthorne's themes, the nature of sin, social hypocrisy, and community repression, still reverberate through American society. Meg Foster brings a quiet strength to the role of Hester, the adulteress condemned to wear a scarlet "A" for the rest of her life. As her partner in crime, the Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale, John Heard writhes in private torment most convincingly. Kevin Conway completes this grim triangle as the mysterious, maleficent Roger Chillingworth. The costumes and scenery are simple, so as not to detract from the dialogue as each character grapples with the meaning of sin, forgiveness, and redemption.
