Bombay Bicycle Club ‘Live at Alexandra Palace Park’(en)

Angélique Kidjo '40th Anniversary'(en)

A journey through 40 years of music at the Royal Albert Hall - as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival. Five-time Grammy winner Angelique Kidjo, named by TIME magazine as 'Africa's premier diva', graced the Royal Albert Hall on 17 November 2023 to spectacularly kick off her highly anticipated 2023 - 2024 world tour. The high-energy performance was a celebration of Kidjo's unbelievable 40-year career and featured special guests, including Lebanese trumpeter Ibrahim Maalouf, Senegalese superstar Youssou N'Dour, Afropop pioneer Stonebwoy, and the UK's very own Laura Mvula. On a mission to discover outside-the-mainstream sounds and the driving forces behind their creation, Jake chats with musicians Me Lost Me, SQUARMS and Mariam Rezaei, along with some of the major players keeping these sonically-engaging sound makers doing what they’re doing, including Simeon Soden from Kaneda Records and Lee Etherington of TUSK. This mini-documentary features reflections on some of the most unique acts in the North East, what genre boundaries actually mean and artists’ hopes for the future of the North East’s alternative scene. The documentary is interspersed with live footage of songs from the tour shot by Ragnheidur Gestsdóttir, which themselves correspond to the performances chosen for the Vespertine Live album.
