See Me: A Walk Through London's Gay Soho in 1994 and 2020(en)

This film weaves across sound, image, time, rhythm and place and is made up of a number of layers both sound and visual layered on top of one another, talking to and informing each other. It is made using digital transfer versions of c90 tape compilations I made between 1992-1995, juxtaposed with moving image footage of me in 2018 and 2020 and a typeface font graphic ‘See Me’ that I designed in 2005. The c90 cassette on screen is the cassette compilation that I still have from 1994. The film also includes drawings and photographs and other artworks from my personal archive as an artist from the last 25 years. As I walk down the streets that were so important in shaping my life as a young gay man living in London, I revisit the gay bars and pubs that have been my safe spaces for the last twenty years and more, spaces that are now closed.

Shot in Quebec, Canada, The Subterranean Blackness of Roots is a 16mm film triptych which uses several processes specific to analog cinema (hand processing, optical printing, photochemical alteration). The film seeks to show the sensory experience of the invisible life of stones, plants and the nature that surrounds us. It’s a dive into the heart of matter, the essence of the vegetal world and the nourishing earth.

Under Whose Roof(pt)

Brazil is going through a political crisis which even representatives of our institutions reproduce speeches that seek to criminalize social movements by framing them as terrorists. The short "Teto Pra Quem" seeks to question the brutality of common sense fueled by the conservative wave by opposing it to the reality of thousands of families and their struggles in the pursuit of one of their most basic human rights: living under a roof.

North of Superior(en)

The second IMAX film made, commissioned by the Ontario Government, and produced by MultiScreen Corporation, later to become IMAX corporation. North of Superior is a Northern Ontario travelogue, and was the first short feature to be shown at the newly created Ontario government theme park, Ontario Place, in it's state of the art cinema, Cinesphere, the first permanent IMAX installation.

Stanley Kubrick’s debut documentary, following Irish-American middleweight boxer Walter Cartier on April 17, 1950—the day of his bout with Bobby James. The film traces Cartier’s quiet morning rituals, training, and anxious hours before the match, culminating in his swift victory that night in Newark. Stanley Kubrick’s short documentary about Father Fred Stadtmueller, a Catholic priest serving a vast 4,000-square-mile parish in rural New Mexico. To reach his scattered congregation, he pilots his own Piper Cub aircraft, the Spirit of St. Joseph. Over two days, Kubrick follows the “flying padre” as he conducts Mass, mediates between quarreling children, attends a funeral, and airlifts a sick child to medical care—capturing both the challenges and quiet heroism of his daily mission.

La Rotonda Vicenza – In Erinnerung an Prof. Lothar Kühne(de)

This film describes a yearning for beauty and gentleness. The philosopher Lothar Kühne was especially concerned with how we live and build. He applied his own ideas about the traditional house to his Villa Rotonda in Vincenza, Italy, not grand, but homely and marvellous. Here he developed his dream of the New House, achallenge to the concrete confines of urban living. In the film, La Rotonda is the motif of yearning which helps to explain Kühne's rigorous dedication to change and to convey the mental and physical torment he felt in the face of the concrete jungle. In November 1985 Prof. Lothar Kühne sought solace in the sea. This film is an indictment of ignorance and stupidity, a plea for sensitivity towards creative minds.
