Sergei Prokofiev's setting of the fairy tale "Cinderella" premiered at Moscow's Bolshoi Theater in 1945. In 1986, Rudolf Nureyev, then ballet director of the Paris Opera, choreographed the ballet anew and transposed the story into a private cinema, with sets reminiscent of Fritz Lang's "Metropolis." ARTE shows the Paris Opera performance from December 31, 2018.

Habitually mistreated at the deceptively named Happyland Home Orphanage, the Our Gang kids find a loyal and kindhearted friend in the form of a black grownup named Uncle Tom. Alas, Tom's own children -- including real-life siblings Allen "Farina" Hoskins and Jannie "Mango" Hoskins -- are carted off to Happyland by the cold-hearted county officials. Together with Kenichi, the bar's number one, they borrow Ishii's old car and set off to northern Kanto. First up is Sato, a company president with a foot fetish. Although married, he can't stop playing around with men, and whenever he comes to Tokyo, he requests Kenichi. In order not to let the people around him know, he gives Kenichi more money than the tab. Next is Yamamoto, a city council member in the local assembly. A born sadist, he likes to tie Kenichi himself or have a young bondage artist tie him up, and then watch it happen. Kenichi continues on his journey, but he has another goal: to meet Shouji, a man he used to date...
