Just before his departure, they have sex and she eventually becomes single mother of a baby girl. Now, 18 years later, her daughter Paulina commutes by bus to work in the nearby city, which gives the village gossips the occasional opportunity to remind her of her unknown father. A resultant conflict with her mother makes Paulina take up residence in the city. Johanka, prodded by her also-single friend Jozefka who maintains that a woman without a man is nothing, begins to woo the new teacher Jarek only to discover later that he is married. Paulina, in the meantime, loses her virginity to the soldier Jirka who promptly makes himself scarce. The main hero of the story is the editor Viktor Bláha, who likes to invent crazy mystifications, during which he has a good time at the expense of those around him. Not only friends pay for his jokes, especially his roommate Jan Valtera, but also completely unknown people who "get involved in his wound" and have no idea that the slightest mistake on their part will trigger an avalanche of Bláh's eloquence. But as they say, everything takes time... The film was shown for the first time at the Film Festival in Zlín on July 30, 1941.

The Flying Windmill(de)

Olli, the main character in the movie, got a very bad grade and is terribly annoyed. She runs away from home and, together with a dog and a horse, finds a (mad? nutty?) scientist in a windmill. They experience the strangest adventures in this windmill and find other interesting characters, a lot of excitement and peril. While you may well interpret something as the "socialist value system" into this movie, it is more meant to be a children's movie, showing the kids that there are more exciting things out there than the ones that your parents and teachers show you, and that you will only find out most of those things on your own, if you show enough curiosity.
