Crystal World(en)

Crystal World is inspired by J.G Ballard’s apocalyptic science fiction novel of the same name where a viral crystal metamorphoses trees, animals, humans and architecture into frozen jewels forever suspended in time and space. The novel is a haunting portrait of a world in which everything is illuminated by prismatic light, a ‘leaking’ of time that causes humans to experience individual moments endlessly looped, repeated and prolonged. My film adapts this concept of crystallization and applies it to fragments from the 1955 film. I reconstruct scenes from Charles Laughton’s iconic film with underwater puppets, which I then crystallize using ammonium phosphate crystals, time-lapse photography, mirrors, prisms, and projectors. Arnie, the blustering, brow-beating dog, is continually out-smarted by a parasitic flea, Birnie. Tired of Birnie using his body as a bed and breakfast, Arnie tries to put an end to Birnie, over and over again. Windlight uses motion capture to block out the overall movement, then animates on top of that data to achieve the more cartoony effects and motion expected of character animation. The result is a hybrid of cartoon gags and subtle human movements.

Mushroom Picking(zh)

Two little rabbits one with long ear and the other with a short tail are good friends. One day, they found a big mushroom in the woods and started a fight for this mushroom. The two good friends quarreled. It suddenly rained heavily in a thunderstorm, and short tail was washed down a waterfall to the bottom of a ravine. Long ear tried to find short tail and finally rescued him from the moat. In the end both are good friends again.

Two outisde observers -the first through a tall window, the second through the lens of a camera- are the only ones to notice a group of protesters blocking the path of the main vehicle to call attention to an unjust tragedy.

Bloody Sundae(en)

A vampire fan-girl, lost in the woods and searching for a Dairy Queen, stumbles across a cannibal whom she excitedly mistakes for a vampire. Flabbergasted, the cannibal decides to play along with the fan-girl's delusions by claiming he is a vampire and inviting her to his cabin, where he plans on killing and eating her. The fan-girl, none the wiser, excitedly accepts.
