The Westoxicateds(fa)
Stuck in a creative rut, filmmaker Gilda Pourjabar returns to Iran, her homeland, to talk with her brother Siamak, an illustrator based in Tehran. This encounter raises questions about their relationship to Western popular art, as they grew up in a culture that the current political regime describes as “westoxicated.” This documentary uses playful animations by Siamak, inspired by Franco-Belgian comics and rock concert posters, superimposed on archival footage of the most recent popular uprisings in Iran to become a logical collaboration for these artists who shared a record collection as children. Together, they examine how art slips through the cracks of repression to light the rebellious sparks in the hearts of young people.

0.0Douglas Gordon sings the best of Lou Reed & The Velvet Underground (For Bas Jan Ader)(en)
In the present work, the artists appears lying on his back, his eyes mostly closed, dreamingly listening to a walkman that plays, a recording of 'The Best of Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground'. The artist can hear the music through his earphones, but as viewers we are only privy to the sound of his voice that whispers the melody. As we listen to the hypnotic interpretion of the familiar songs - as emblematic for pop music history as 'Psycho' is for film - we are forced to mentally 'reconstruct' the remaining orchestration, instrumentation and vocals. We must attempt to reassemble something we already know to be a fact by negotiating the sticky mess of interpretation, meaning, and memory.

9.012 Little Things(en)
12 Little Things. You only have to do 12 Little Things to bring back the bird. In this movie I’m in search of Furry as a ritual in times of bland and blank AI-optimization. The ritual is missing when the AI skips all steps. Furry offers so many rituals – so many steps. It’s really cult-like and that is the importance for humans in a post-post-(…)-digtale landscape: We need a cult to survive and escape the hyper-dominance of companies seeping into the everyday digital immersion of life, leaving no space left to go, while their AI-systems are helping right-wing actors worldwide to spread their poisonous ideologies, destroying any possibilites of a dignified human life on earth and earth itself.
The Muse(en)
